Kommunekemi is the leading hazardous waste management company in Denmark. The company has three waste incineration lines at its state-of-the-art plant in Nyborg, Denmark which constitutes Europe’s single largest facility of its kind. It has a total capacity of approx. 185,000 ton per year.
Kommunekemi’s customers are large waste producers, waste collectors and transfer stations. 70% of revenues are generated in Denmark. In addition to waste treatment fees, Kommunekemi generates 20% of its revenues through sale of energy (heat and electricity) which is generated in the incineration process.
Kommunekemi was established in 1971 as the first treatment plant for hazardous waste in Denmark. Before EQT’s acquisition, the company was owned by Local Government Denmark, the Municipality of Copenhagen and the Municipality of Frederiksberg.
